Floating, suspended in mid-air, or as Copperfield says, “Flying,” is a staple of magicdom. I’ve recently been drawn to this. Once upon a time I included a “floating” effect in my show.
What if we could really do that? What if you had the power to make something float? What would you do with that power? As I sit here and write this, I’m not sure I can think of a time when that power would be a benefit to me, or my family.
My wife says that floating would take the load off her joints. And, that she could also see under things. Which I guess would have value if you are buying a car. Or need to do repairs. Even still, I’m not convinced it would be the power I want.
Making something, or someone, disappear? Yes, absolutely. (And I’ll let you fill in the blank with your favorite candidate.) Knowing what someone is thinking? Always a good power to have, and would be useful to me. Not just as a magician, but in regular life.
Floating something six feet off the floor. If that were your one magic power, what would be your benefit?
